Who I am and how I can help you find your optimal self
I offer clients a sacred space to share feelings about traumatic experiences that are difficult to talk about while providing support identifying specific barriers to change and healing.
For over twenty years I have been working in the mental health and addiction recovery field with a primary interest in the neurobiology of depression, mood disorders and addiction. Always curious why certain therapies (pharmaceutical and clinical) are more effective than others in the recovery and healing process. I am also passionate about supporting individuals and their families as they heal from the family disease of addiction. I do this through educating individuals and their families through family and couples therapy. I believe the more you involve the whole family when a person struggles with mental health and/or addiction the better the outcomes.
Research has confirmed what I have seen for many years; beneath the behavior of addiction lies a history of trauma and great loss. I have found Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy was a game changer for many of my clients, including their families. Helping them attain long -term sobriety while increasing love and trust in close relationships. EMDR is the front line treatment today for trauma and many of my clients report EMDR is about "getting past their past" and being able to move forward.
When working together my first goal is creating an authentic, nonjudgemental connection where lasting healing can occur. Our relationship together will be collaborative; I believe you intuitively have the answers. I will guide you on your journey; gaining healing one insight at a time.
During our sessions we will utilize various counseling techniques such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), (EMDR), Attachment Focused (EMDR), therapeutic yoga practices such as Y12SR and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for depression (MBCT). My work interweaves many of these therapies to address trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and/or addiction.
All of my work with Clients includes education on Neuroplasticity (how the brain is malleable and can heal in recovery) and Poly Vagal Theory (how our central nervous system is altered by trauma, addiction, and mental health and how it heals).
